Zimbabwe continues to take pride in excelling at United Nations peacekeeping missions, with another contingent of five police officers set to leave for South Sudan.
A contingent of five police officers has been deployed to South Sudan for a United Nations peacekeeping mission.
Bidding farewell to the police officers at the Police General Headquarters in Harare this Wednesday, Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga underscored the need to maintain the country’s legacy of exceptional performance in peacekeeping missions.
“As you partake in this important global peacekeeping responsibility, let it be entrenched in your minds that your colleagues who served in other UN missions across the world left a legacy of exceptional performance,” he said.
“The main reason we are sending you to a foreign land is to ensure peace and security in that country. The people of Sudan will put their trust in you to keep their peace as they endeavour to rebuild their country.”
Zimbabwe has been recognised by the United Nations as a dependable partner in peacekeeping operations, with some ZRP and Zimbabwe National Army officers being honoured for contributing to regional as well as international peace and security.
This comes at a time when President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York this month taking pride in Zimbabwe’s outstanding performance in UN peace-keeping missions in various countries including Angola, Somalia, Liberia and Sierra Leone among other countries.
