Burundi Restricts Diplomatic Passport Holders’ Travel

Henceforth, every person wishing for the diplomatic passport renewal application file will be accompanied by a list of the achievements of the holder during the period of validity of his passport, the General Secretariat of State announced on August 21, 2023.

In addition, whoever travels abroad on a diplomatic passport via Melchior Ndadaye airport, must first present the work order as it appears in the announcement signed by Prosper Ntahorwamiye, who is now the Secretary General of the State and its spokesman.

For those applying for exit visas through the embassy, they must first present the document issued by the Minister of External Relations and Mutual Development.

While these passports are practical and used by all those involved in country-related activities, Prosper Ntahorwamiye warns passport holders that those caught using them for unauthorized purposes may be punished and have their passports withdrawn.
