Import of electric vehicles sharply increased in Tajikistan last year

Tajikistan imported 767 electric vehicles in 2022, up 720 units from 2021 /47/. This was reported on Tuesday by the country’s national news agency Khovar.

The country is implementing the Electric Transport Development Program for 2023-2027. President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that in order to improve the environmental situation, it is necessary to completely exempt the import of electric vehicles, electric buses and trolleybuses from tax and customs payments. In this regard, the government will take measures to gradually create infrastructure and other necessary conditions for the use of electric vehicles.

The executive body of the city of Dushanbe, within the framework of the Green City program, has purchased 104 wireless trolleybuses, several electric buses and one contactless electric trolleybus over the past 2-3 years.

In Tajikistan, amendments to the Tax Code make it possible to exempt the import of electric vehicles from customs duties, as well as value added tax and excise duty for a period of 10 years.
